Hardware Upgrade - core01.ffm1.de Jun 5, 2026 10:00-11:00 UTC

We're going to gradually start informing customers about the upgrade of router core01.ffm1.de to a new Arista 7508R based chassis. Maintenances are planned subsequently through Q2 and Q3/2026 to migrate customer ports on core01.ffm1.de during the night to the new platform.

Hardware Upgrade - core01/core02.hel1.fi Jun 26, 2026 10:00-11:00 UTC

We're upgrading our core routers at HEL1 (Hetzner Helsinki) onto two Arista 7500R platform devices, also replacing Juniper egress/peering routers as well as to increase port density due to growing traffic demands.

Customers will be informed seperately and we plan migrating their ports throughout Q3/2026.

Update - The dark fiber backbone supplier informed us, newly ordered dark fiber links will be ready in the coming week. We will afterwards start deploying DWDM equipment towards Digital Realty and Equinix Frankfurt, to implement the said capacity upgrades on our Frankfurt fiber ring network.

Scheduled - We are currently expanding our connectivity in Frankfurt am Main by deploying additional dark fiber links to Digital Realty and Equinix. This upgrade strengthens our FFM1 points of presence in response to sustained network growth, currently reaching ~2 Tbps aggregate traffic.

As part of this work, a new, dedicated DWDM platform is being deployed in separate network cabinets. The system is fully decoupled from the existing transport environment to ensure improved scalability, resilience, and operational isolation. Once completed, each new fiber pair will be seperately lit with 1.6 Tbps.

Informal: Go-Live of automated prefix addition to API

Scheduled - We're taking automated prefix addition to our API live. This means primarily, new prefixes will be put into a quarantine status, tagged with bgp community 30823:30822. When they pass the filter check (RIR+ROA), they are being added automatically to our API within 60 seconds.

DDoS-Protection policies configured within Default Policy Group - or a customized one - such as flowrules and flexrules being automatically applied. We're working on finishing automation on moving new prefixes out of the quarantine status onto production downstream prefix-lists for our routing platform. For the time being, technical procedures to add new prefixes to customer prefix-lists as present are valid.
